77TH Edition Of Cannes Film Festival
The official selection of films to be presented during the Cannes Film Festival was unveiled at a press conference on the morning of April 11.
The 77th edition will take place from May 14th to 25th in Cannes, France. The selection will feature the return of Francis Ford Coppola with the film “MEGALOPOLIS”. Furthermore, the director already holds 2 Palme d’Or awards for the films:
“THE CONVERSATION” (1974) and “APOCALYPSE NOW” (1979).
In addition to Coppola’s film, three films selected were produced by Saint Laurent productions: EMELIA PEREZ” by Jacques Audiard , THE SHROUDS” by David Cronenberg and “PARTHENOPE” by Paolo Sorrentino
Saint Laurent Productions is a subsidiary of the Saint Laurent brand, which belongs to the Kering Group, and its creative director Anthony Vaccarello, who is also leading this project.
According to Vaccarello himself, “I want to work with all the great talents of cinema that have inspired me over the years and give them a space.”
Saint Laurent has become the first fashion house to have a film production company. Another anticipated moment will be the Palme d’Or en honneur (in honor) which will be awarded to GEORGE LUCAS (79 years old), a major figure in Hollywood cinema. The director, producer, and screenwriter considered the father of the Star Wars saga will receive the award on May 25th during the festival’s closing ceremony.
19 films will be in competition and were selected from 2000 feature films viewed. The jury will be chaired by GRETTA GERWING, the American director of the film Barbie.
Additionally, we will have another woman who will be the master of ceremonies, French actress “CAMILLE COTTIN”.
