British Artist Kate MccGwire Collaborates with Co-Lab369 for Exclusive Scarf Collection
A unique fusion of art and fashion unfolds this autumn as renowned British artist Kate MccGwire partners with Paris-based Co-Lab369 to craft a limited-edition series of artist-designed scarves.
Inspired by MccGwire's established artistic style, each scarf draws from cycles, patterns, and the dualities of nature rooted in her Norfolk childhood. Featuring feathers and earthy tones, the scarves encapsulate the artist's distinctive exploration of nature and time.
As a visual artist and sculptor, MccGwire employs labor-intensive processes to create forms reminiscent of classical sculpture and mythological creatures. These forms, known for their simultaneous seduction and repulsion, organic abstraction, and static fluidity, find new life in the bespoke scarf collection.
Crafted with meticulous detail, the scarves – Host, Nimbus Reflection, Cavort Iris, and Cavort East – showcase MccGwire's creative signature. Constructed from luxury silk, wool, and cashmere with hand-finished edges, each design is part of a limited first edition, with 50-100 scarves available for purchase.
The collaboration with Co-Lab369 founder Michelle Lindup, forged over a decade-long friendship, blossomed during MccGwire's solo show at Galeries Filles de Calvaire in 2022.
The scarves, crafted using artisanal techniques from Como, Italy, prioritize responsible production, incorporating sustainable and environmentally friendly dyes. Made to order to minimize waste, these fashion pieces align with MccGwire's commitment to sustainable practices.
Coinciding with the scarf launch is the unveiling of MccGwire's new work, TORRENT (2023), commissioned for 1 Hotel, Mayfair. This large installation in the Dover Yard Bar echoes the hotel's commitment to sustainability, featuring repurposed ingredients from its kitchen.
Speaking on 'the duplicity of nature,' MccGwire reflects on her inspiration drawn from water's fleeting patterns, beauty, and underlying danger. These scarves debut as MccGwire gains recognition as a creative force in both the fashion and art realms.
From November 29, 2023, to April 28, 2024, MccGwire's sculpture INVEIGLE will be part of Iris Van Herpen's grand retrospective 'Sculpting the Senses' at Musée des Arts Decorative, Paris. Additionally, MccGwire's works will be featured at the Untitled Art Fair, Miami, presented by Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire, Paris, in December 2023.
