The Journey to Planet Cardin

Fasten your seatbelts as we embark on a journey to Planet Cardin. Yes, when we speak of Pierre Cardin, we speak of someone
who defined his era. He was not just the inventor of futuristic fashion; he was the future.
Pierre Cardin was born in 1922 in San Biagio di Callalta, near Venice, Italy. At the age of two, he moved to France.

A THEATRICAL BEGINNING

In 1945, Cardin began working with Paquin, where he met influential figures such as Jean Cocteau and Christian Bérard. These encounters led to collaborations, and he began creating costumes for the iconic film La Belle et la Bête.

THE NEW LOOK

Thanks to his youth, audacity, and undeniable talent, Cardin joined Christian Dior in 1946, becoming part of one of fashion’s most defining moments: the creation of the iconic “Bar jacket”. From then on, his career was destined for great things.

A JOURNEY TO THE FUTURE

In 1950, Cardin took a bold step by opening his own fashion house. Just three years later, he unveiled his first collection. More than just a creative force, Pierre Cardin was a sharp businessman, charting his own path with great ambition and vision.

NO LIMITS

Always ahead of his time, Cardin was a trailblazer, breaking conventions and expanding horizons. For him, even space was not out of reach. He ventured into everything: women’s fashion, men’s fashion, children’s wear, haute couture, design, art, and even pioneered prêt-à-porter. In addition to being a fashion teacher in Japan, he won the prestigious “Dé d’Or” haute couture prize three times. Among his many achievements, he dressed the Beatles, owned the renowned Maxim’s restaurant in Paris, and was named Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur. Cardin left no stone unturned – from pens to cars, his name became synonymous with innovation and excellence.

Pierre Cardin envisioned the future before it arrived. Perhaps this was his way of ensuring he would always be part of it. After dedicating 70 years to fashion, he passed away in 2020 at the age of 98, but he lives on in the future he so vividly imagined.

FROM THE PAST TO THE PRESENT – OR IS IT THE FUTURE?

On 30 September 2024, Paris witnessed another chapter in Cardin’s visionary legacy. Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin, his successor and the current creative director, unveiled the Maison’s Spring-Summer 2025 collection. The chosen venue, the Peniche Noti Club on the banks of the Seine with a stunning view of the Eiffel Tower, was the perfect setting for this homage.

The collection paid tribute to Pierre Cardin’s codes with an avant-garde journey through a kaleidoscopic universe, full of vibrant colours, fluid shapes, curves, symmetry, and the signature rounded forms that have long symbolised the Maison.

A FASHION CONSCIOUS OF THE PLANET

Pierre Cardin’s brand is now more attuned to the future and its environmental impact, focusing on technological and sustainable solutions, such as using fabrics from the brand’s archives and stock. After all, the future is shaped by the actions of today, and Rodrigo Cardin is fully aware of this.

BETWEEN THE OCEAN AND THE UNIVERSE

In Pierre Cardin’s future, the marine world and outer space walk hand in hand. This is reflected in the aquatic, transparent fabrics seen in the latest collection. On Planet Cardin, space and the oceans are inseparable, as the future cannot exist without acknowledging their importance.

More than 50 models graced the runway, reinforcing the futuristic and avant-garde spirit of the Maison. A show that proves Pierre Cardin will forever be in pursuit of the future and the discovery of new horizons.
