The King of Upcycling Debuts in Couture
Yes! Haute couture has made room for the rich work of Kevin Germanier, known for his dedication to upcycling existing materials and vintage pieces, collaborating with artisans worldwide.
BEGINNING IN COUTURE
Germanier took his first steps into the exclusive world of Paris Haute Couture after several seasons presenting his prêt-à-porter collections. The designer was invited—or rather, challenged—to embark on this new phase, marking an evolution for the brand.
GERMANIER'S ENCHANTED WORD
The show was titled “Les Globuleuses.” The first look referenced red blood cells, while the final one represented white blood cells, with vibrant colors in between. According to Germanier, it was as if a woman ingested a pill (symbolized by beads), envisioning a world through this prism. Colorful? Without a doubt! Fireworks illuminated the runway.
It’s worth noting that each piece was meticulously crafted by artisans collaborating with Kevin, using entirely recycled and reclaimed materials. This demonstrates that good taste and art can achieve anything. At Germanier, no one shines alone!
INCLUSIVE ART FROM BRAZIL
Speaking of collaboration, Brazil joined forces with Germanier through the impeccable artistry of Gustavo Silvestre from Pernambuco. He founded the “Ponto Firme” project, which trains and offers opportunities to individuals in vulnerable situations through crochet—a traditional technique proving that fashion, art, and social impact can and should go hand in hand.
GERMANIER’S VISION
In this collection, the designer revitalized vintage pieces from brands like Dior and Givenchy, giving them new life and continuing their stories through a transformative lens. Just as we are always evolving, fashion is also cyclical!
Kevin Germanier was born in Switzerland and studied fashion in London. In 2018, he launched his brand. From a young age, Kevin was interested in fashion, using household linens to dress his siblings. His immense curiosity about the body and its movements, and seeing potential in “waste” materials destined for disposal, led him to reinvent new stories. This detailed, sensitive, and innovative perspective has made him one of the prominent names in fashion. Notably, Kevin designed several looks for the Paris Olympic Games ceremonies, and now the world is watching his work.
AN EXPLOSION OF COLORS
Colours are a fundamental part of his DNA—an abundance of textures and sparkle. One dress was entirely made of pencils and pens in collaboration with Caran d’Ache, representing hours of artisanal work, featuring volumes, ruffles, and crochet… ART WITH A CAPITAL “A”!
A collection that left nothing to be desired; on the contrary, Germanier proved he understands and creates haute couture!
Just as each bead is carefully applied one by one, Germanier has been building or rather embroidering his history in fashion.
