Saulo Fernandes: From Barreiras to the World, Spreading Joy and Music
Saulo Fernandes is one of the most remarkable names in Brazilian music. His career began with the band Eva, where he quickly stood out as one of the leading vocalists of axé music. As a solo artist, he continues to captivate audiences with his songs that speak of love, joy, and hope. Saulo is known for his unique voice, engaging stage presence, and ability to deeply connect with his audience.
Born in the city of Barreiras, Bahia, Saulo chose early on to have no barriers in his life. In a journey marked by challenges, he transformed difficulties into opportunities and learning experiences. Influenced by great names in Brazilian music, such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Ivete Sangalo, Saulo brings with him a rich mix of rhythms and styles that reflect Brazil’s cultural diversity. Additionally, he has collaborated with various renowned and emerging artists, further expanding his impact on Brazilian music.
We are honored to have him in London, where he is currently on his European tour. His presence in the city brings a wave of excitement and anticipation. Let’s get to know more about his vision, influences, and the messages he wishes to share with his fans.
SAULO, IF YOU COULD DEFINE THE ESSENCE OF YOUR MUSIC IN ONE SENTENCE, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Saulo: “May happy days linger.” My music is meant to awaken joy of living and lightness.
YOU WERE EXPLORING LONDON YESTERDAY. WHAT EXPERIENCE OR ENCOUNTER IN THE CITY INSPIRED YOU ARTISTICALLY THE MOST?
Saulo: I haven’t had time yet. I’ll take a walk tomorrow. London is a city full of art. My eyes need this beauty and richness.
THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER, WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST UNEXPECTED MOMENT THAT DEEPLY IMPACTED YOUR MUSICAL JOURNEY?
Saulo: Many wonderful things have happened, but I still think the unexpected, the surprise, is yet to come.
YOU HAVE HAD MANY AMAZING COLLABORATIONS. IS THERE ANY ARTIST, FROM ANY GENRE OR ERA, WITH WHOM YOU STILL DREAM OF COLLABORATING?
Saulo: Oh, so many. I love collaborations. I really like new Brazilian artists. I would love to sing with Jotapê, Rachel Reis… many.
WITH YOUR EUROPEAN TOUR IN FULL SWING, HOW HAVE THESE INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES INFLUENCED YOUR MUSIC AND WORLDVIEW?
Saulo: Expansion, right? Living is expanding. Learning. Culture is water that we are eternally thirsty for.
TO CONCLUDE, IF YOU COULD CONVEY ONE MESSAGE TO THE FANS WHO HAVE FOLLOWED YOU FROM THE BEGINNING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Saulo: To thank them a lot, so much, and always. I hope to live up to their trust and love.
Additionally, last night’s show was a memorable event, where Saulo transformed the Jazz Café into a true Axé Café, bringing the contagious energy of Bahia de Todos os Santos. His performance brought out the best of what Brazilians have: the joy of living and the lightness of carrying life with optimism. Music has the power to make us travel, and Saulo’s songs are a true journey to Brazil, bringing a taste of nostalgia and human warmth.
Thank you very much, Saulo, for sharing a bit of your journey and thoughts with us. We wish you great success on your tour and hope your music continues to touch many lives.
